Article 50 of the EU AI Act began applying on 2 August 2026. It includes requirements to mark certain AI-generated or manipulated outputs so they can be detected.
What is known.
The European Commission says a limited transition period gives providers of systems already on the market before 2 August until 2 December 2026 to meet the Article 50(2) marking and detection requirement. That date is the subject of this forecast.
Why it is a possibility.
The deadline is written into the current EU framework and described in Commission guidance, so it is more predictable than a new legislative vote. The 94% estimate still allows for a formal change before the date.
This call is about the compliance date arriving. It does not claim that every provider will be compliant or that regulators will begin imposing penalties that day.
What could prevent it.
The deadline could be changed by later legislation or formal guidance; implementation may also be disputed in individual cases.
How it will be assessed.
Resolves yes if the Article 50(2) transparency obligations for the covered pre-existing AI systems reach their scheduled 2 December 2026 compliance date without a formal postponement. Check the Commission's official AI Act guidance and the applicable EU legislation.
